Look what I found! Ever since Apple introduced the iPad, I’d been hoping they would build in a universal setting somewhere they would allow us to lock the screen in portrait mode. If you own an iPhone or iPod touch, you know how desperately this feature is needed on these devices. Thankfully, Apple has decided to do something about it on the iPad, which now has a physical screen orientation lock switch on its side (among other new features).
When I’d seen that switch before, I’d figured that it was just a silent/ringer switch, similar to the iPhone’s. Only today did I realise that the iPad won’t be ringing much at all (what with it not being a phone) and, upon a quick inspection of Apple’s newly updated website (after they kicked off pre-orders for the device today), chanced upon this little gem of information. Thanks, Apple, for caring about those of us who like to read in bed.
