I love Tumblr just as much as the next person but this just reeks of incompetence. And all this lying to save their asses is just making it worse. They need to step up and admit that they made a mistake, apologise for it and offer to put the domain back under the control of its original owner. Otherwise, all they are doing is digging a deeper hole for themselves.
