Apple Cinema Display more expensive than iMac

marco:

A curious sidenote on Apple’s impressive updates today:

The 27” iMac’s base configuration is $1699. It has a 2560x1440 resolution and can be used as a standalone monitor from another computer. It’s a new LED-backlit IPS panel likely to have an excellent color gamut, contrast ratio, and pixel response time.

The 30” Cinema Display is $1799. It has a 2560x1600 resolution. It’s an older CCFL-backlit panel with mediocre specifications.

Marco makes an excellent point here. Apple really does not seem to care two hoots about its Cinema Display lineup. They’re all egregiously priced, woefully out of date (except for the LED model), and never receive any attention whatsoever from Apple. They’re so crappy, in fact, that when I—known to many as a diehard Apple loyalist—wanted to buy a 30-inch display, I chose to go for the Dell UltraSharp W3008WFP instead of the Apple 30-inch Cinema Display.
